Choosing colour temperature and fixtures
Two numbers on a light's box decide how a room feels: colour temperature, measured in Kelvin (K), and colour rendering, measured as CRI.
- Warm white (2700K to 3000K): soft and yellowish. Best for bedrooms, living rooms and dining areas, and for the mood in cafes and restaurants.
- Neutral white (around 4000K): clear without feeling harsh. Good for kitchens, study tables, offices and workstations.
- Cool white (5000K and above): bright and bluish. Rarely right inside a home. Better kept for utility areas.
- CRI 90 or higher: shows colours accurately. Worth it in kitchens, wardrobes and retail displays, where food, clothes and products should look true.

Profile lights: clean lines of light
Profile lights are LED strips set inside a slim aluminium channel with a diffuser on top. Instead of a row of bright dots, you get one smooth line of light. They are a popular way to add a modern look to a ceiling, a headboard wall, a wardrobe or a staircase.
- Recessed or surface-mounted: recessed profiles sit flush inside a false ceiling or wall and look the cleanest. Surface profiles work where the ceiling is already finished.
- Plan them with the ceiling: recessed profiles need a groove and wiring inside the false ceiling, so decide on them before the boards go up. See our false ceiling work page.
- Diffuser and strip quality: an opal (frosted) diffuser and a dense LED strip give an even line with no visible spots. Cheap strips show dotting and change colour over time.
- Driver access: every profile run needs a driver (power supply). We place it where it can be reached for service without breaking the ceiling.
- Feature walls: a profile light along a UV marble sheet or panelled wall makes the texture stand out.
